On April 15, the project launch meeting and implementation plan discussion for the national key research and development program “Theories and Methods for Solar-Driven Biomass Conversion to Chemicals” was held at Tsinghua University’s Ying Shi Building. This project is led by Tsinghua University in collaboration with Heilongjiang University, East China University of Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Beijing PerfectLight Technology Co., Ltd.. Attendees included Academician Liu Zhongfan from Peking University, Academician Xi Zhenfeng from Peking University, Academician Guo Lijian from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Chen Yangzi, project manager from the High Technology Research and Development Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Jiang He, Director of the Research Program Management Office at Tsinghua University, and Lyu Yangcheng, Party Secretary of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University, among others. More than 50 participants, including project experts and team members from nine universities across the country, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the project leader, Professor TANG JUNWANG from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University.

First, Tang Junwang welcomed and thanked the guests attending the project launch meeting and introduced the participants one by one. Subsequently, Jiang He, Director of the Research Program Management Office at Tsinghua University, Lyu Yangcheng, Party Secretary of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Chen Yangzi, project manager from the High Technology Research and Development Center of the National Natural Science Foundation, delivered speeches. All three leaders highly affirmed the strategic significance of this project in their speeches and expressed hope that the project would achieve green scientific research results and transform into new productive forces, contributing to the national energy transition and the green utilization of biomass.

During the meeting, Tang Junwang provided a systematic report on the overall situation of the project, comprehensively introducing the project goals, technological innovations, task assignments, and overall implementation plan. Following this, project leaders Professor Tang Junwang, Professor Jing Liqiang from Heilongjiang University, Professor Yang Huagui from East China University of Science and Technology, and Deputy General Manager Liu Huan from Beijing PerfectLight Technology Co., Ltd. gave detailed reports on key scientific issues, research task design, project objectives, team composition, expected outcomes, and scheduling.

The project advisory expert group listened to the project report and engaged in academic discussions, unanimously agreeing that the project team is robust and has a solid research foundation. The project focuses on key scientific and technological issues in solar-driven biomass conversion, showcasing outstanding innovation and significant research implications. The implementation of the project is expected to break through key bottlenecks in solar-driven catalytic processes, utilizing the abundant solar energy and biomass in nature to achieve the preparation of green chemicals and the development of core technologies, contributing significantly to the national energy transition and the green, low-carbon manufacturing of chemicals at a critical moment in the country's development.

Finally, Tang Junwang and the team expressed their sincere gratitude for the support from the attending experts and leaders, and the meeting concluded successfully in a warm atmosphere of academic exchange.
