At the beginning of 2025, Perfectlight achieved a historic breakthrough!
In December 2024, the National Key R&D Program project titled "Theories and Methods for Solar-Driven Biomass Conversion to Chemicals" officially commenced. Tsinghua University is the lead applicant institution, with Academician Tang Junwang as the project leader.
This project is under the Ministry of Science and Technology's Engineering Science and Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Special Program. The project consists of four topics and is undertaken by six institutions: Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-sen University, Heilongjiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Beijing Perfectlight Technology Co., Ltd.
The technology for solar-driven biomass conversion to chemicals is of great significance in addressing the energy crisis, environmental pollution, and achieving carbon neutrality goals. It has received wide attention and action in the global scientific community. For example, the European Union launched the "Renewable Energy Directive," the United States established the "Renewable Fuel Standard," and Japan introduced the "Biofuel Strategy."
• In response to the urgent need for new biofuels in the transportation sector, research on the solar thermal catalytic conversion performance of various types of biomass molecules, and the development of high-efficiency photo/thermal catalysts with high-throughput screening and precise preparation theories;
• Development of full-spectrum solar photo/thermal catalytic reaction devices and processes, revealing the charge transfer and kinetic reaction mechanisms at the photo/thermal catalytic interface;
• Proposing multi-dimensional evaluation parameters for photo/thermal catalytic performance;
• Establishing a system for solar-driven biomass platform molecular catalytic conversion into high-value fuels and chemicals with commercial application potential.
Perfectlight is responsible for one of the four topics in this project, "Pilot-scale amplification of the reaction system and establishment of multi-dimensional evaluation parameters," and will work with the Xi'an Jiaotong University research group, which jointly undertakes the sub-topic, to complete the scaling-up design, construction, and verification of the solar thermal coupled reaction system based on high-efficiency catalysts and optimized devices.
Founded in 2006, Perfectlight is one of the earliest specialized photocatalytic equipment companies in China. It is one of the first batch of "Specialized, Refined, Distinctive, and Innovative" enterprises in Beijing in 2020. The company has expanded its business to the light + multi-fields (heat, electricity, magnetism, etc.) area, with users distributed in over 30 countries and regions worldwide. It has also applied innovative equipment in industrial-scale production multiple times. This funding for a sub-topic of the National Key R&D Program reflects both the strength of past technical work and the practical application of the national "New Production Power" scientific innovation theory system, providing small and medium-sized private enterprises with a valuable opportunity to contribute to major national projects. All related research and development personnel at Perfectlight will give their best effort to ensure the project achieves its goals on time and with high quality.
