Laboratory light source, what is cold light source and hot light source and LED light source application

As far as experimental light source is concerned, when it comes to cold and hot light sources, most people's reaction is: the one that emits more heat is the hot light source, and the other is the cold light source. 

What is cold illuminant and heat illuminant, actually otherwise, cold, heat illuminant is not according to the discretion of external temperature of lamps and lanterns will define, of external temperature is high with low, can judge its to come loose the actor bad degree of measure only.

1. How to distinguish cold and hot light sources 

The light source inspired by chemical energy, electric energy and biological energy is called cold light source. The light source that makes use of the principle that object heats up to produce light radiation is called thermal light source. 

It is important to note that the cold light source does not produce heat, but it is not converted from heat energy to light energy. 

For example, LED light source is a typical cold light source. The core part of LED light source is a chip composed of P-type semiconductor and N-type semiconductor, and there is a transition layer between P-type semiconductor and N-type semiconductor, called p-N junction. In the P-N junction of some semiconductor materials, the injected minority carrier and majority carrier compound will release the excess energy in the form of light, so as to directly convert the electric energy into light energy, which is the luminous principle of LED light source. 

Incandescent lamp is a typical thermal light, it is first to convert electrical energy into heat energy, filament after being heated to high temperature, composition of the filament material elements outside the nucleus of electronic will be excited, so as to make it to the outer layers of the higher energy transition, when the electronic to electronic transition of the low energy again, excess energy was presented in the form of light, to complete the transformation of heat energy into light energy.

2, the advantages of cold and hot light source: 

1) Its luminescence properties can be accurately estimated by Planck formula; 

2) The light emitted is continuous spectrum, and the spectrum range is very wide; 

3) Most of this kind of light source belongs to the electric heat type. By controlling the input power and using appropriate voltage stabilizer or steady current power supply, its light output can obtain higher stability.

Advantages of cold light source: 

1) When the cold light source emits light, its temperature is not higher than the ambient temperature. When the photothermal catalytic experiment or the output light heat is required, the LED light source is generally selected to replace the thermal light source, because the LED light source irradiation will not cause obvious temperature changes in the reaction system; 

2) Due to the low output light heat, the volume of the cooling component of the cold light source is relatively small; 

3) The luminescence principle determines that the life of cold light source is much longer than that of hot light source, because cold light source basically does not exist the phenomenon of burning off and aging, for example, the service life of LED light source can be up to 10000 h.

3. Application of LED light source 

In the experimental stage of photochemistry, researchers often choose xenon lamp light source to simulate sunlight, but once from the experimental stage to small-scale production stage, the advantages of LED light source come out.

 1)LED light source is a cold light source, the heat of the output light is very small, and the volume of the cooling component is also very small. The heat generated by xenon light source is much higher than LED light source. The heat generated will not only directly affect the service life of the bulb, but also cause heat influence on the material irradiated. Especially when a large area of light source is needed, the LED light source is more suitable because the xenon light source needs multiple cooling components, and the volume is usually large. 

 2)LED light source in the structure of the luminous body for a single lamp bead, according to the use of the scene can be integrated into the plane array luminous body, flexible strip, rigid strip and other different structures. In addition to the narrowband wavelength output, the LED light source can also simulate the solar spectrum through multi-bead fitting.

In order to solve the problem of light source on a small scale, Perfectlight Technology developed two different large-area light sources for different experimental scenes:
